About Athreya Retinal Centre

Dr. M.R.S. Ramakrishnan founded Dr. Vas eye hospital after his father Dr. M.R.S. Vas, the first eye specialist in the district of Tiruchirapalli. The hospital started off in 1963 was relocated to its present site in 1991 built on an area of 3750 sqft. with two floors. Dr. Vas Eye Hospital is known for its care and treatment at the hands of eminent surgeons and skilled staff in addition to exceptional service and friendly atmosphere.

This was spruced up to meet the growing demands in eye care with the addition of Dr. M.R. Sriram Gopal MMBS.DO DNB FRCS (G) The hospital was upgraded to a specialty eye care centre to cater to vitreo-retinal diseases. This was Athreya vitreo retinal centre.

This project started in 2007 has been delivering quality vitreo - retinal care to the patients of the region with special emphasis on diabetics and diabetic retinopathy. It is carrying forward all the good work done by Dr. Vas eye hospital to date. In two years it has evolved as the leading centre for treatment of vitreo retinal diseases in this part of the state.

Athreya retinal centre and Dr. Vas Hospital is located in the centre of the city of Tiruchirapalli. It caters to the need of the people from the Tiruchirapalli city and its adjoining areas. It is well connected to the central bus stand and railway station. The hospital is registered with the respective board as well (Reg. No. NHB JM 171)
